I am Off Center! What About You?

Ok in "the never a dull moment" with the Tata Safari Dicor VTT spirit have just confirmed another "Problem" that I am sure didn't exist till yesterday. Driving back home today and noticed that the steering wheel was not pointing North when actually the SUV was traveling straight as an arrow.

I did check to see if this was a my imagination playing tricks. But there was no drift the vehicle was moving straight and the steering wheel is now in the 13:00 position instead of 12 0'clock. It is definitely loosing the plot and hopefully the 1st servicing can also sort this out.

Coming Soon: Complete list of things to get fixed in the 1st service.

hey turby

is the first service after 1000 or 5000?

I think the service manual says 5k.

Hi djbobo,

The first service is between 1000 and 1500km. The one after that is at 10000km and the rest after that at 10000km intervals. So 5 free servicing means that we are sorted till the 40000km mark!

Hi there,
I got my 2.2 VTT on Monday. Its really amazing vehicle and now easy to drive in city when compared to the 3.0 litre engine.
Few things I noticed, not sure if any one of you have noticed the same:
1. Hissing sound when taking a U turn on the right side or take a steep right turn basically when moving the steering wheel complete right. have called the dealer and said the service guy will look at it on Saturday along with anythign else I have and fix it... But question is why this sound and what does it mean ?
2. Have noticed the engine noise to be high when changing gear from 1 to 2 and 2 to 3. Gear shift is real smooth but this sound/noise bothers me a little bit. may be a little tunning would take this away. Any thoughts ?

Minor things, but significant.
1. The glove box opens automatically when the SUV goes over a big pot hole. the hook to be tightened.
2. The fuel Lid also opens sometimes when the SUV goes over a big pot hole. again the lid to be tightened.

Other than above I think at this time No other major issues reported. I am really enjoying the drive everyday.... I drive almost 70km every day and its pretty comfortable in the City (Hyd) with the new Safari...

Hi Puneet,

Congrats on your New Beast. I did look for the hissing sounds on full turn but have not yet heard any.

Everything else you mention seems to be fixable in the first service OR as I think the Real PDI!

hey Puneet

I also get the hissing sound on my 2.2. Basically when I turn the steering completely while taking a U-Turn.

Went to the Dealer's Service shop and they checked it thoroughly and told me that hissing sound on complete right turn ( while making U turn) is common and there is nothing wrong in the Car other than you have to get used to this sound. This sound is due to Hydraulic pump in the Power Steering which is at its peek when you take the complete Right or Left.
He promised me for my satisfaction he would get the pump checked on first service again.

Just got the reverse Guidling system fixed in my EX. I find it pretty neat and convenient while taking reverse since It’s a huge Car and visibility is very poor from the back window with spare wheel covering almost centre half of the window.

I am also getting the Micro VBB security system fixed today. This is GSM based security system to provide extra security for the Car and the fixtures in the Car like DVD system. Stereo etc.
It comes from Micro Technologies and you can control the Car from your cell phone while you are away from the Car and it provides real time messaging in case of any intrusion.

I am looking out for some good place to get :

1. Leather Seat covers built for my “beast”. Anyone knows about a good place in Hyderabad who does a clean and neat job on the seat covers and sells good genuine leather (not art leather).

2. Any V-Kool dealer in Hyderabad for getting the Sun Film and Teflon coating done on the “beast”?

Request you all for any info you can give on this please.
