First Service - The Cost!

The first service cost me 1220/-. The engine coating was 900/- and they added 2 liters of engine oil for 320/- . I hope to add a photo of the "Coated Engine" soon.

I asked why the oil was added and didn't really get any thing meaningful out from the guy at the workshop other than that I must check engine oil levels once a week. Anyways as I said all seems well for now. Also the clicking completely stops if the seat behind the driver is occupied so am hoping to find the source and kill it once and for all.

If any of you are familiar with the Safari's middle row seats and could help me start somewhere particular please do let me know.;-)

"2 liters of engine " What the $###@..how come. Is ur engine oil leaking or engine oil getting eaten inside??? This is serious stuff man.. get it checked and get a proper answer from Pandit auto. 2ltrs in 1000km is really mindboggling. Something is really amiss here.

Ok guys will investigate further. Would you guys know the following:

1. What is the engine oil capacity of the 2.2?

2. How much should a liter of engine oil be?

This as you can see is all new territory for me so thanks for your concern. There is no leakage since I have got the truck and I did tell the workshop guy about this. He just said it needed topping up. Like may be with the loose battery cable they forgot to fill enough engine oil or something. Any ways will dwell a little deeper this week and see where we get to.

Here is the Invoice details for the oil:

"GTX20W40 Petrol Engine Oil Castrol 2 liters"

Is this not a Diesel engine? Jeez, I shall have to be very careful with these "Servicing's"!

Ok, just spoke to the workshop. The receipt shows "Petrol Engine Oil" as the new oil for the 2.2 has not been entered into their Database. I have got full assurance from the Manager that the oil added was diesel engine oil meant for the 2.2 engine.

2 liters was added as the level was found low. He said that 3 other 2.2's have had the same problem in their first service. He believes that this discrepancy was from the factory end. In other words it is a known issue.

At this point I am giving him the benefit of doubt because of 3 reasons:

1. There are no leaks at the moment.

2. There is no black/extra smoke from the exhaust.

3. The engine is sounding good, power delivery is getting better as the kms add up and generally there seems to be no sign of an impending disaster.

He has asked me to check the level again at 3000Km and call him if the oil vanishes again.

Once again thank you guys for your advice and concern.

Thanks for taking the effort to share your ownership experience with us.

One question, if the low engine oil issue is caused by a mistake at the factory, shouldn’t they top it up for free?

One expects a vehicle to arrive with the correct amount of fluids (apart from petrol/diesel).

Hi Arjun,

That thought did cross my mind! Why should the customer be made to pay for the TML production line goofs? I guess simply because there was no proof as to where the low oil level originated. The problem is that the PDI is not done either correctly or at all at the dealers end.

The TML dealers have also a long way to achieve world class standards.

Seems they are still stuck in the 1980's. :-(
