Hi,

I regularly follow up on updates on your blog as I was also trying to decide if I should go ahead and buy the Safari 2.2 ( vs. the Scorpio ). This week - I went ahead and booked the Safari, and I must say that your comments and reviews did play an active role in that. Thank you for this !

Few questions though -

1. Wanted to know what kind of numbers you are getting for the fuel efficiency part ?

2. I have driven a scorpio/ innova before - but I guess one of the things I am skeptical about is the wider turning radius of Safari - 6m I believe - any comments on that ?

3. Did you install any anti-theft systems ?

Thanks in advance for your insights into these.

Hi,

First of all, you deserve kudos for putting up a blog on this, and I must say , influenced me quite a bit to go ahead and book the new Safari 2.2. ( I am still awaiting the delivery ). Thanks for that !

Few mindless stuff that is currently on my mind right now -

1. What are the kind of numbers you are getting / expecting for the fuel efficiency ?

2. I am kinda skeptical about the turning radius of the Safari - 6m I believe - having driven vehicles with lesser radius - read scorpio/ innova. Any comments on this ?

3. Did you sign up for any additional warranties other than the 2 year thingy that they are offering ?

Would appreciate if you can throw some light on these. Thanks in advance!

any tips?

Hi,

Great to know you will be joining the Beastie Boys soon!

1. Have not really given a good look at Fuel Consumption yet. Seems to be way better than my Santro though.

2. The turning radius is big and needs to be planned for in advance. U turns are surely not possible at every junction.

3. The truck already has a factory fitted electronic Anti-Theft system.

4. Did not know about any other warranty's other than the additional 2 years, which the dealer already billed me for at the time of purchase.

Hey djbobo,

Great to hear you are getting VTT'ed tomorrow. Please check that the cables connected to the battery are secure and tight. ;-)

Also, check that all the rubber/plastic bits inside the cabin and in the engine bay are present. My beast is minus one rubber bush which the bonnet sits on. I shall be getting one in my 1st service which looks like a week away.

Do let us know how it all turns out for you! All the Beast!!!

Thanks for the tips.
Are you talking about the central locking with immobilibzer. Isnt that similar to an autocop or is it better than that? You think its good enough?

Still waiting for your pics :D

bm-log said...

Yes,

The factory fitted immobilizer + remote central locking is fine. It is fully silent and does not irritate you with beeps every time you lock or unlock.

Also, even if the truck is unlocked and/or open the immobilizer kicks in after a few minutes so that it won't start till the "unlock" is pressed on the remote. Very handy in case one ever forgets to lock it.

Hi Ashok,

Sorry for the delay with the pics. Actually I was ready on Tuesday to do the photos but have misplaced the charger to the camera and don't want to use the phone. So please hang in there. The pictures will be up ASAP.

Thanks for your understanding and patience.

Did you get a teflon coating done? what are the accessories that you think are a MUST for the 2.2 Monster?

bm-log said...

Yes, I did get the Auto Coat laminate coating done by V-Kool guys. It's a package for both the exterior as well as the interior of the truck and includes a yearly coat for 4 more years. The price was approx 12000. Am quite please with it.

On the accessories front, I got the VX because I do not have the time getting stuff put in. But if I had to change/add anything it would be a better music systems incl. speakers. The stock system is in one word - crap. I will put up with it for about a year and then get proper kit in.

Nothing else really needs to be added unless you must to things just for the sake of it.

hi i am Dr pavan chowdary ,first of all we r thankful to you for maintaining this fantastic blog which is helping many people to clarify their doubtd regarding TATA SAFARI ,i have few questions regarding this safari 2.2 as i am skeptical abt few issues give below
1)r u comfortable inside in driving seat in bad roads
2)milage on 30%city and 70% highways
waiting for u r reply
thanx in advance

bm-log said...

Hi Doc,

1. Yes, the drivers seat is a great place to be in whatever the type of road.

2. The mileage gets better as the kms add up. With 70 - 30 on highway and city you should easily get 12 to 14 kmpl with A/C on after the engine has run in.

Thanks

Hey....
Just saw ur blog....interesting...
I have recently bought a new 2.2 VTT....just got its first service done last week.........
checked on the avergae after that....clocked a little more than 10 kmpl........I was hoping for something more like in the 12-14 range.....
Ur comments/suggestions.....

bm-log said...

Hi,

Give it another 2000 kms or so. My average has jumped from 10 to about 12kmpl after 4000kms.

Adding System D also has helped with the fuel economy.

lets c how its shapes up!!!!
infact this time round i got an avg of about 11+.......

Hi, thanks for info on beast, i am planning to get TATA SAFARI DICOR -within 2 months. I have certain doubts ,please do clarify.

1) Price difference between Lx and Ex is around 1.2 lacs in mumbai.Features differ in bumper colour, seat, dashbord colour, roof mounted a/c ,keyless entry ,music system.
do you suggest to buy basic model-Lx and upgrade i. I think i can atleast paint the bumper, fit a good music system , fit a better autocop system ,have a better apholstry ,(i dont need a roof mount a/c,is it really worth, efficient ??} , and few accessories more, and still end up with few bucks left to spend within 1.2 lac price difference.

What do you suggest.Or shall i buy the semi loaded EX version

bm-log said...

Manish,

Yes, the variants are a dilemma. To be honest if ABS and Airbags were available in the LX I would have bought it. Alas had to cough up for the VX. The middle row roof A/C is a necessity in the summers. if the middle seats are not going to be used that much then you are ok with the LX. Otherwise I would say the front vents are not enough to cool the beast in the back.

The EX is the most popular variant for this reason I think.

Enjoy the beast which ever one you get and do share your experiences with us.

I wanted to know regarding the Autocop system. I have a Safari 2.2VTT EX model. Comes with factory fitted EI & remote locking. But, isnt the Autocop required too? For eg., though no one can drive away the beast, but wht if someone gave an impact to it while it was parked, etc. In a autocop vehicle, the vehicle would've made noise, etc. Atleast, the driver can come to know that someone touched the vehicle. Hence, the autocop is needed. Pls correct me. - Vineet
