The Pulley Change!

Ok, got a call last Saturday about bringing in the beast for a New Modified Pulley in on Tuesday. Have just returned back from the workshop. Should be ready to be picked up by 4 pm today. In my brief interaction with the Exec present I gathered from them that this is not a "Super Urgent Very Critical" recall of any sorts.

He said that this part was being changed in all 2.2's as and when they came in for a service. Going by what we have read on Team BHP on this it seems only Manipal Motors in Bangalore is getting this done on a priority basis. Or maybe certain vehicle batches have the need for this change more than others. Most of our readers around the country have had no intimation from their respective dealers on this. Perhaps they too will change the pulley on the next scheduled service.

In any case I have not had any complaints with the engine as of yet! [Touch Wood] :-)

The change over to the new pulley has now been completed. Got a call at 4:30pm to come and collect the vehicle. The only perceivable differences are slightly less noise + vibration levels (they were already very low) and less of a shudder on starting the engine and at switching it off.

Have just driven it for about 5 kms back home. Will take it down on the highway soon to see if there is any new magic that awaits us. ;-)

Completed 550 km run to the forests of Jhargram, this Sunday-Monday.

I have been using Premium fuels all through since I got the VTT. No black smoke and decent fuel average of around 12 [highway+city].

For the first time, I thought about using plain diesel without additives, for this run, as some of us were reporting less noise to more fuel efficiency to cat con troubles. As such filled up 55 litres of IOC plain diesel for this run.

Observations with plain diesel and NO additives

1. No change in pickup, nothing like that on plain diesel one looses bhp.

2. The smoothness was missing. With premium, I felt the engine noise was reduced. The difference though minimal was there. With premium fuel, the engine was almost silent at uniform speed.

3. I got an average of 10.2 kpl, this with 5 adults, luggage, and AC at 2 setting all the time. Of 550 km, 400 km was highway and rest 150 km was forest journeys.

The FE was less, I got a better average [12 kpl] with premium fuels for the Orissa forest run, and there also the ratio of forest to highway was the same as for this journey and with 5 adults and much more luggage.

So when do we come up with the standard fuel for the 2.2 VTT. Looks like the fuel choice will vary from person to person.

I will be filling up IOC plain diesel with the additive this time [System D], to see what effect this has. Otherwise back to premium diesel, do need back that smoothness.

Hi ADC,

Great to hear about your recent run into the forests. Yes, the fuel combinations seem to be different for different folks. I guess stay with whatever rows your boat. I do think System D will bring the smoothness back. Try it!

As for my next big run have not made any concrete plans yet. Not Eastwards yet. But you shall know when that happens. :-)

I guess when there are so many product available(SystemD, STP, Premium, Magic pills) there is bound to be personal preferences, but use what suits your engine best.

Also did you notice a slight drop in engine temperature as I noticed it from the temp gauge needle.

Earlier the needle used to be right in the middle-break of the temp gauge semi-circle.

Now it stays at 1 mm below the middle.

Hi Dadu,

I actually looked for any change in the temperature on the way back home yesterday but alas cannot see any change. My needle was always just left of the middle point anyways. Its seems to have stayed there.
