Another trip to the City on the Coast coming up this weekend. Since I got the Safari, Pune and Mumbai seem almost fused together now. The comfort levels for the driver and passengers are very high on this run and every trip is looked forward to by all in the family. A true measure for the beast that does its job well.
Also coming up a review of the STP Diesel Additive. I have been using System D but many people have suggested STP as a better alternative. It is mostly never in stock so today I was lucky to get 4 bottles from Poona Motors. ;-)
Since this is used with every tank full I will have to wait till my return trip from Mumbai to test it out! Watch this space for the results.

harjeev has got 18 kmpl FE on the Xtramile premium diesel keeping between 70-85 km/hr(rpm between 1.5 to 2.0k)on the highways without AirCon.

Wow I could not possibly do 75/80 on the Highway. My beast would be insulted ;-)
Am in Mumbai today did 160 again for long streches with ease.
He was between Amritsar - Delhi, so nothing like the Mumbai - Pune expressway.
But always remember that handling and controlling an SUV at those speeds can be a nightmare compared to a sedan due to high ground clearance and there are several morons on the road making sudden unexpected moves.
Drive safe.
I agree, doing 160 in any car/suv is not something that should be atempted on a whim.
To give you a quick background this is my third truck in the last 8 years. I have gotten my expressway experience mostly on European Highways where actually driving slow can get you killed.
For the benefit of my readers please note I take many things into consideration before atempting high speeds. Road conditions, traffic and weather all have to be in my favour before I put the pedal to the metal. I implore you to do the same.

hi, i'm plannin 2 get a safari vx this month..i initially wanted 2 go for 4x4 coz i intend 2 take it offroad as well but the showroom guys suggest 4x2 is good enough...so u tellme did u ever meet 4x4 demanding situations and how good is the blaupunkt system provided dat includes da head unit as well as the speakers.. and wht color is ur safari..i will most prolly get a black one or a pearl white

Sorry for the delayed response. Caught the flu in Mumbai and was knocked out for the last couple of days. Anyways now I am back so here goes...
Ok, so the 4X2 or 4X4 decision has to be made. Simply put if you are asking that question a 4X2 will do you just fine. SUV's by nature are always 4X4 but due to costs we here in India do get 4X2 one's. If budget is a problem the 4X2 will do just fine. On the other hand if you can afford the 4X4 then go for it so you have a "complete" SUV.
Mine is an Arctic Silver. It looks great in Black as well as the Pearl White!
The Blaupunkt system is just ok. The Speakers are crap. I upgraded mine and you can read about that on this blog in detail. Actually the placement of the head unit is so bad that spending good money on a replacement will be a complete waste. You could say that the position of the Head unit is my major gripe with the beast.

I did some extensive research on the Diesel fuels and their compatibility with engines, Please read this article for insight on the diesel fuel specs and read this post for insight on the TATA safari recommendations on fuel type you should use.

I'm planning to buy a 2nd hand safari. My daily running is about 60 kms in traffic. How is this vehickle to use? Would i incur a lot expence on maintainance???
